5 Combustion Problems For Furnace Repair Services

Posted on

Are you getting inadequate heat from your furnace, or is it consuming more fuel than expected? Faulty combustion can lead to several problems in your home, from dangerous carbon monoxide leaks to furnace fires. To keep your family safe, it's important to be aware of the five most common causes of combustion failure and how a furnace repair service can fix them:

1. Insufficient Air Supply

Without enough oxygen, the fire in the furnace will start to smolder and eventually go out. This will happen when the damper is closed or the filters are dirty. If you suspect that your furnace is not getting enough air, the heater technician will first check the air filter.

The technician will replace the filter if it's dirty and clogged. Next, they'll look at the vents and ensure they are not blocked by furniture or other objects. Finally, they'll check the damper to make sure it is open.

2. Failed Igniter Switch

If the igniter switch is not working properly, the igniter will not receive the power it needs to light the gas, and the furnace will not be able to heat your home. There are a few ways to test whether or not the igniter switch is working properly.

First, the technician can check to see if the switch is getting power by testing it with a multimeter. If the switch is not receiving power, you will need to replace it. If the furnace does not start, it is likely that the igniter switch is defective and will need to be replaced.

3. Cracked Heat Exchanger

The heat exchanger is responsible for transferring heat from the furnace to the home. If the heat exchanger is cracked, it can leak carbon monoxide into the home, which can be dangerous to your health.

A cracked heat exchanger can also cause the furnace to overheat and shut down. A furnace repair service will inspect for hairline cracks or bigger fissures and seal them.

4. Dirty Burners

To clean the burners, the technician will need to turn off the furnace and remove the access panel. Once the panel is removed, they can inspect the burners and clean them with a brush if necessary. If the burners are severely damaged, they will need to be replaced.

5. Cracked and Leaking Fuel Pipe

If the fuel pipe that supplies gas to the furnace is cracked or leaking, it can cause the furnace to malfunction. In some cases, a cracked fuel pipe can also cause a fire. You can do a visual inspection for a leaking pipe. Replace it immediately because of the fire hazard it poses.

A faulty home furnace can quickly make your home very uncomfortable; the reason you should have it fixed as promptly as possible. Consult a furnace repair service to diagnose and fix faults in your furnace ASAP.
