3 Tips For Staying Cool While Waiting For Your Air Conditioning Repair Technician

Posted on

One of the worst things that can happen during the hot summer months is for your air conditioner to go out. Not only are you probably concerned about what's wrong with your system, but you could be wondering how you'll keep you and your family cool until you can have it repaired. Luckily, there are a few things that you can do to try to control the temperature inside your house in the meantime.

1. Turn the Stove Off

Don't cook anything on your stove or in your oven until you can get your air conditioner fixed; otherwise, the heat can spread throughout your home. Instead, try grilling outdoors or using a slow cooker, which doesn't produce nearly as much heat. You might also find that cold foods like salads, sandwiches and popsicles are a more comfortable choice in the higher temperatures, and then you don't have to worry about heating up your home at all.

2. Keep the Windows Covered

You might think that you can let some cool air in by opening up your windows, but unless it's past sunset and is cool and breezy outside, you'll probably be letting in even more heat. Plus, open windows can allow the sun's rays to shine right into your home. Instead, try covering up your windows with shades -- or blankets and sheets, if that's what you have on hand -- to help keep the hot sun out. In the evenings, it can be a good idea to open up your windows and let a little bit of a breeze in, however.

3. Use Fans

Fans are a necessity while you're waiting for your air conditioning repair technician. Keep your ceiling fans on in any room that you or your family members are in, and consider getting a cheap box fan or stand-up fan from a discount store. Even after your AC is repaired, you can use the fans that you purchase to help keep the temperatures cool without spending as much on your cooling bill.

Trying to stay comfortable when it's hot outside and your air conditioning isn't working properly isn't easy. You're going to need to call an air conditioning repair professional like Perry Heating Cooling as soon as possible, but this doesn't mean that you have to roast until the technician gets there. If you give these three tips a try, you can help keep you and your family as comfortable as possible until your air conditioner is back up and running.
